Bruno Van Dycke

‘The stone’ is the leitmotif in the paintings of Bruno Van Dycke.
A stone, there is nothing simpler.
Stones reach for timelessness, the earliest forms of stardust.
That amazement about an ordinary stone is the stimulus from which a painting is created.
Then the painting takes its course, searching like an independent being.
The paint goes all the way to the edge of abstraction.
There lies the truth, on the border between matter and the unmentionable.
The work of art arises from and in consciousness.
It reminds us that everything originated from the undivided consciousness.

‘Open Land’ and ‘Stones’ are two subjects that Bruno Van Dycke always develops in a new way. They both have a natural and an unpretentious simplicity.
The ‘Stone’ represents modesty, inwardness, inner strength or sometimes also coexistence, powerlessness in communication.
The ‘Open Land’ represents a melancholic openness, a naive receptiveness or a daringly open view.

Painting starts from these forms of consciousness.
It will be a long process that calls for many approaches that meet each other on the canvas. This means that the painting is constantly undergoing changes.
It is a search for proportions, colour, contrast, intensity, expressiveness...
until a calm point is reached, a moment of silence that may last.
The painting has become the condensation of this entire process of transformation.

The silent image wants to defend itself against all the words, sounds, unsolicited images, opinions and unnecessary stimuli that fill our lives.
The series ‘to Enku’ fits into this tranquility.

‘De steen’ is het leidmotief in de schilderijen van Bruno Van Dycke.
Een steen, eenvoudiger is er niet.
Stenen reiken naar tijdloosheid, de vroegste vormen van sterrenstof.
Die verwondering over een gewone steen is de prikkel waaruit een schilderij ontstaat.
Dan gaat het schilderij zijn gang, als een zoekend zelfstandig wezen.
De verf gaat zijn weg tot op de rand van het abstracte.
Daar ligt de waarheid, op de grens van de materie en het onnoembare.
Het kunstwerk ontstaat uit en in bewustzijn.
Het herinnert er ons aan dat alles is ontstaan uit het onverdeelde bewustzijn.

‘Open Land’ en ‘Stenen’ zijn twee onderwerpen die Bruno Van Dycke telkens op een nieuwe manier uitwerkt. Ze zijn allebei van een natuurlijke en pretentieloze eenvoud.
De ‘steen’ staat voor ingetogenheid, het naar binnen gekeerd zijn, de innerlijke kracht of soms ook het naast elkaar bestaan, de onmacht in communicatie.
Het ‘open land’ staat voor een melancholische openheid, een naïeve ontvankelijkheid of een gedurfde open kijk.

Vanuit deze bewustzijnsvormen start het schilderen.
Het wordt een langdurig proces dat heel wat benaderingen oproept die elkaar op het doek ontmoeten. Dit houdt in dat het schilderij voortdurend veranderingen ondergaat.
Het is een zoeken naar verhoudingen, kleur, contrast, intensiteit, zeggingskracht...
tot er een rustpunt is bereikt, een moment van stilte dat mag blijven duren.
Het schilderij is de verdichting geworden van dit hele proces van transformatie.

Het verstilde beeld wil zich weren zich tegen alle woorden, geluiden, ongevraagde beelden, meningen en nodeloze prikkels waarmee onze levens gevuld worden.
In deze verstilling past de reeks ‘to Enku’.
