Hervé Martijn ‘shows’ what we previously like to ‘hide’; sadness, fear, shame, but also drift, desire, obsession, etc... Mental turbulences are plastically translated into intimist paintings. Introspection is clearly at the core of his imagery.
The painter creates a hermetic atmosphere. His figurations exhibit their deeper ‘I’ but always keep us at a certain distance. Typical are theatrical staging and a strong chiaroscuro effect. Painterly and substantive ‘layering’ go hand in hand here.

Hervé Martijn ‘toont’ wat we eerder graag ‘verbergen’; verdriet, angst, schaamte, maar ook drift, begeerte, obsessie, enz... Mentale turbulenties worden plastisch vertaald tot intimistische schilderijen. Introspectie vormt duidelijk de kern van zijn beeldtaal.
